Plunging

Plunging necklines are tricky, by definition they walk the line between sexy and vulgar. These four starlets pulled it off.

Winner: Kate Hudson in Versace

Black Gown

It’s no surprise that the ever-present black gown was high in numbers on tonight’s red carpet. My very favorite was Olivia Wilde’s Valentino gown.

Nominees: Olivia Wilde in Valentino, Julia Robers in Givenchy Couture, Anna Kendrick in J. Mendel, Charlize Theron in Dior

Winner: Olivia Wilde in Valentino – even while pregnant, Olivia stuns in this two tone Valentino gown.

Sleek

There are very few frills on these frocks, but they are all beauties.

Winner: Emma Watson in Vera Wang

Embellished

Beads, florets, sequins, fringe, all of the above can be found on possibly my favorite category of Oscar dresses. I though Naomi Watts looked killer in this white Calvin Klein gown.

Nominees: Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein Collection, Cate Blanchett in Giorgio Armani, Jessica Biel in Chanel Couture, Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta

Winner: Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein Collection
