Over my Thanksgiving vacation my mother had a very important birthday. My mom doesn’t really like to have parties thrown for her but I insisted. She is so special to me, and does so many nice things for me each and everyday. Everywhere she goes she spreads love and beauty. The very best thing about her is that she is always happy, and has taught me and my sisters to make our own happiness. I really wanted to treat her to a fun day filled with love, beauty, and her favorite pastime: needlepoint!

I had so much fun planning a needlepoint birthday party for her and her friends. I wanted to throw my mom a party that was different than something she would do herself (which is hard because we are very alike). The gold and white decorations made my parents’ dining room so whimsical and festive, but it still looked grown up. We had a Mexican buffet for lunch (her favorite), drank hibiscus tea and white wine, and got a lot of needlepointing done!
